US Housing Starts Fall 4.1% in December

Builders began work on fewer houses in the US in December, capping the worst year on record for single-family home construction. Housing starts fell 4.1% to a 657k annual rate, below economists’ median forecast for 680k and reflecting a slump in multifamily dwellings. Building permits, a proxy for future construction, were little changed.
